Fence Gates: Access Gates and Driveway Gates
Deer are notorious for proceeding along the perimeter of a fence until they find some hole or opening that will let them in. Therefore, it pays to complete the fence by closing all the remaining openings with deer fence gates. For this purpose we offer "access" fence gates 3, 4, and 5 feet wide and driveway entrance gates up to 15 feet wide. Both types are made of sturdy black 1-3/8 inch steel pipe and include hinges, latches, and the gate that fits within the frame. Unlike other products priced comparably, we also include the gate frame or (in the case of driveway entrance gates that have no frames) the heavy 2-3/8" posts that support the gate. The only item we do not include is the fencing material for the gate door. That's because this material should match the rest of your fence, and we don't know which of the various available materials (polypropylene or metal hex) you will be using. So in the instructions we explain how to cut out a piece of fencing and place it in the gate door; and we provide all the materials needed to attach it. In the special case where you are using metal hex fencing with a 9.5, 13, or 15-foot gate, allow for a double run of fencing across the gate by reserving 19, 26, or 30 feet of fencing material for this purpose. Driveway Entrance Gate Openers and Accessories
Mighty Mule® products from GTO, Inc. are often installed with driveway entrance gates They consist primarily of the mule itself, a dual or single motorized gate arm (items 19-07 and 19-08) that comes with a 12-volt battery together with a trickle-charger that plugs into an AC outlet and keeps the battery permanently charged. The mule also comes with an instructional video geared to do-it-yourself installers that goes step by step through the installation process. A number of mule controllers and other mule accessories are also available (items 19-09 thru 19-15). They include the “Free Entry/Exit Wand,” a convenient device that detects the metal of an oncoming car and opens the gate; a key-chain remote controller; a garage-style remote controller; a doorbell-style opening button; an automatic lock; a solar panel for the battery; and a push-to-open bracket that allows the gate to be pushed open rather than pulled open. Driveway Grates to Keep Out Deer Deer grates (items 19-16 thru 19-19) provide the most reliable driveway protection against deer while permitting the driveway to remain open. They consist of massive 3-inch steel bars, separated by 3-inch spaces, that are suspended over a 12-inch deep cavity that deer will not step into. These massive bars consist of 3" OD schedule 4.0 pipe weighing 6.5 pounds per foot. The bars are supported by frames (there are 2 frames per grate) made with 12-inch steel “C” channels on the long (81-inch) sides that in turn are connected by three 8-inch “I” beams (one on each end and one in the middle). The two middle pipes in each 81-inch array are mounted on a small frame that can be unbolted from the main frame and removed temporarily when one wishes to clean out the main cavity. These grates aren’t cheap, but they are highly effective. Designed to support a load of up to 20 tons, they come in four widths (10, 12, 14, or 16 feet). Each grate has a high-quality powder-coat finish and is available in black, grey, or green. For more information about installation of these grates and how to select them, see Deer Fence Installation: Driveway Gates and Driveway Grates. Customers purchasing this product should allow four weeks for delivery.
